Because stainless steels look alike they are often mixed-up. This is a very serious problem since cost and corrosion resistance vary greatly in different grades of stainless.

Koslow Kit 1542C for 316 stainless steels has been specified for many years by America's largest companies for their contract work. It has also been accepted by various U.S. Govt. agencies and is used by and for the military extensively. This moly test is faster, easier, cleaner, less expensive and more reliable than any other method to identify stainless steel 316... the world's best.

Kit 1542C distinguishes between 316 and other 300 series stainless steels.. The moly test is a two step test using only two solutions to unambiguously identify moly. A drop of one solution is added to a test paper which is then placed on the stainless and current is passed to sample a minute amount of the alloy. The current-flow light assures you that the electrical circuit is complete and that the battery is functioning properly. In the next step the Koslow developer Solution 5 is added to the same paper. The color due to moly develops in seconds. Total test time is about10 seconds per sample!

The carbon test is also simple. A small area of the test sample is briefly heated with a propane torch (not supplied but available at any hardware store at a minimal cost). A similar electrical step follows as described above, using only one solution. The test is not quantitative and does not give percent carbon.

All Koslow Kits and Refills are available individually from stock for immediate delivery by UPS ground or air service. Call us if you're in a rush...you can have your kit the next day.
